Graduate Degree Options for Agents of Social Change

As an independent, not-for-profit institution of higher learning, the Adler School of Professional Psychology teaches that health resides in community life--and practitioners must advocate for social conditions that promote well-being. Our programs that uniquely prepare practitioners who can lead social change for improved health outcomes include:

  • The Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.), western Canada’s first such program, training clinicians to interpret and transform research into effective, evidence-based clinical and community-based care. We offer coursework usually not found in clinical psychology programs: in leadership, diversity, social policy, and community psychology.
  • The Master of Arts in Community Psychology, preparing professionals for consulting and leadership in government and community agencies, with the ability to design, develop, and deliver supports for healthy communities and individuals. The program integrates theory, community-based research, applied skills, and community service within the disciplines of community psychology, community development, counselling theory, and practice.
  • The Master of Counselling Psychology: Art Therapy, British Columbia’s only such program, which combines innovative practical training and a rigorous curriculum focused on art-making and counselling methodologies. Art therapy draws on artistic media and the creative process to help improve individuals’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
  • The Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, preparing graduates for a wide variety of community mental health positions in the public and private sectors, with foundations in counselling psychology theory and methodology and hands-on, supervised training.
  • The Master of Counselling Psychology, which provides a non-thesis option for students interested in a practitioner-based Master of Counselling credential.
  • The Master of Arts in Organizational Psychology, preparing graduates to effect organizational wellness and change through counselling leadership and knowledge of organizational psychology, organizational development, leadership practice, and counselling theory and practice.
